This weeks job has been to clean the hull. As we haven’t been sailing for a while, weed and silt has had a chance to build up on the hull. If we are sailing regularly then the movement of the boat through the water prevents anything growing on the hull which slows the boat down. However if we don’t use the boat for a while then marine life attaches itself to the boat, the longer we leave it the worse it gets. The most effective way to remove it all is to jump in the water with a scrubbing pad and get to work.
Because the boat has a special paint (something called Oceoprotec) the weed comes off pretty easily, leaving behind a super smooth surface that will slip through the water easily – it’s just not a pleasant job, especially in the winter, hence the diving dry suit!
