After 10 years planning and then a frustrating 8 weeks waiting for the weather window to open – the time has come to cast off the lines and head out to sea.
We will be leaving from Haslar Marina in Gosport and sailing down the Solent, past the Needles and towards the start line. I should cross the start sometime on Christmas Day – a great present. The forecast looks reasonably light overnight and then variable, but I should have mainly reaching or downwind sailing for the first week or so down to the Canary Islands in between 5 – 20 knots of wind. Champagne sailing 🙂
Beyond that I should start to pick up the trade winds which will take me down towards the equator and beyond.
The Yellow Brick satellite tracker will be set to transmit my position every hour. You can follow it via this link. You can also comment on the tracker link and see other peoples comments.
So for now, it is a chance for me to get my last nights sleep in a decent bed and then head to the boat first thing in the morning to set off on the challenge of a lifetime…
I plan to keep the website updated via Paula who I will be in touch with every day via satellite comms. I also plan to keep up a regular newsletter update – you can sign up to it at the bottom of the website pages if you aren’t already receiving updates.
So for now this is my last update from dry land before I leave.
