Rebuild and Atlantic Race – ‘Champagne Hippy’

Complete rebuild of the 90′ Superyacht after it sank

Recently Alex has been involved in two large and very different projects.

The first was the complete rebuild of the 90′, £5.5 million super yacht ‘Champagne Hippy’. Alex was brought in as a consultant to help with the sailing specification, including the rigging, sails and electronics. He then skippered the yacht from the boatyard in Essex to Las Palmas in the Canaries in order to successfully race her across the Atlantic in the ARC.

After sailing Champagne Hippy back from the Caribbean, Alex had only been in the UK for 4 days when he was asked to help out, and manage, a world record attempt to Stand-Up Paddleboard around the UK. Helping TV personality Jordan Wylie in the never before achieved challenge, Alex gave Jordan daily weather information and routing advice as well as skippering the support yacht from time to time.

January 2021 and Alex is back managing another very interesting project for the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. A 4 girl team approached Alex to help them manage the refit of their 29′ Ocean rowing boat and then help with their training and weather route them across the Atlantic during the race itself.
