Ever since Alex first sailed professionally at the age of 19, he has been lucky enough to be paid for his experience in sailing for other people. Although from time to time he takes out corporate groups for teambuilding days, most of his sailing now is racing. From the 605-mile classic Fastnet race, to racing in the Caribbean.
Since returning from Australia in April 2019, he has raced in Cowes week, and across the Atlantic in the ARC skippering the 90’ Superyacht Champagne Hippy, and skipper the race yacht ‘Panther’ in the Caribbean 600 and the Heineken Cup in St Maarten as well as many other events around the world.
Although racing around ‘the cans’ is bread and butter to Alex, his real passion is long distance offshore sailing and being involved in the Oyster campaign gives Alex the opportunity to sail across the Atlantic and back again.
Acting as a sailing ‘consultant’ on the project, advising on all the sailing aspects of the rebuild and dealing with suppliers and specifying the equipment on the boat, Alex is bringing all his years of Ocean racing experience to this fascinating project.
